Reading

Please continue to support your child with reading at home, this is a crucial life skill. All children should leave KS1 with the ability to read. Please listen to your child every night and share stories together, this will encourage them to enjoy and appreciate books.

All children should have their Reading Record and Reading books in school every day.

Year 1

Year 1 receive two Phonics reading books per week. One phonic book is to consolidate previous sounds learnt, and one phonic book will include the current digraph/trigraph being learnt and practiced that week. We would encourage you to also try the activities and question on the inside cover of the books as they support phonic knowledge and understanding of the text.

Year 2

Depending on their Phonic group depends on the reading books sent home for our Year 2's.

Phase 5  Phonics  - Receive two Phonics reading books per week. One phonic book is to consolidate previous sounds learnt, and one phonic book will include the current digraph/trigraph being learnt and practiced that week. We would encourage you to also try the activities and question on the inside cover of the books as they support phonic knowledge and understanding of the text.

Phase 6 Phonics - Receive a colour banded book which they can change as soon as they need to through the week.
