Curriculum Overview

Spring 1

Our topic for this half term is ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’. We will be learning about all the different animals that live on a farm, baby animals and food that grows on a farm. We may even be having a visit from a real farmer! We are also looking forward to learning all about Chinese New Year.

In English, we will be continuing to use Talk for Writing to help us learn different texts. We will be focusing on the stories ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and ‘Farmyard Hullaballoo’. We will be applying the skills we have learnt in Phonics to help us read and write simple words and sentences.

In Phonics, we will continue to practice our Phase 2 letter formation, writing lots of words containing each letter. We will also continue to learn our Phase 2 tricky words.

In Maths, we will continue our journey to become Mathematical Masters. We will be exploring different ways to make 5 and will be learning about the numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Autumn 2 Topic

This half term we will be going ‘Out of this World!’ This topic sees Little Acorns going on an adventure into Space! We will be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction books with a Space theme, including one of our favourites ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. We will also be discovering all about Neil Armstrong and learning about and making our own mini versions of the planets in our Solar System. We are hoping to discover some astronauts of the future in Little Acorns!
