Curriculum Overview

Cherry Class Spring Term Learning

Happy New Year and welcome back to a new term!

Please see below an overview of our curriculum for the Spring Term 2022.

English: In English the children will be comparing a range of traditional tales in preparation for writing their own versions. We start off with 'The Egyptian Cinderella' and will then explore other traditional tales that have been adapted. We will also explore a range of non-fiction books linked to our topics. This will enable the children to identify features of non-chronological reports, diaries, instructions and explanations so that they can write in the same style.

Our class text ‘Brightstorm’ has been chosen with the interests of the children in mind. The vocabulary in this book is rich and challenging. It will take Cherry class on a journey that is full of many twists and turns!

Maths: We will continue to revisit and revise prior learning and also explore multiplication and division. The children will also look at time, measurements and fractions this term. There will be a particular emphasis on the children learning their times tables which we will cover in a variety of different ways. It will be important, especially for Year 4 pupils to practice on TT Rock stars, this will enable them to work on their speed and prepare them for the Times Tables assessment in June. The assessment will be done on a computer, more details to follow.

Science: As scientists this term, we will be investigating 'States of Matter' and 'Sound'.

The children will carry out investigations and apply what they learn in groups and independently. Please follow us on our class Twitter page to see what we get up to!

1) Who were the Ancient Egyptians and how long did they exist for?

2) Why was the River Nile important to the Egyptians?

3) How did agricultural advances support this civilization?

4) How do we know about the Ancient Egyptians?

5) Why was the afterlife important to Ancient Egyptians?

Geography: As explorers, we will be studying rivers and the impact it has on the people living nearby.

Art: As artists, we will be using clay to create objects linked to our topic on Ancient Egypt.
