Curriculum Overview

Cherry Class


Please see below an overview of our curriculum for the Autumn Term 2022.


English: In our English lessons, we will be writing using different genres linked to our text 'Minpins'. We will complete various creative writing tasks, while gaining a strong understanding of spelling, punctuation and grammar.





Maths: In our Maths lessons, following a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach, we will be focusing on Place Value and the four operations.




Science: As scientists this term, we will be investigating 'Electricity'. We will be discussing what is electricity? What are the common appliances that run on electricity? How can I construct a simple series electrical circuit?


Geography: As geographers, we will understand geographical similarities and differences through study of human and physical geography of a region of the UK (The Wyre Forest). This will include: types of settlement, and land use, economic activity including trade.

How has our locality changed over the last century?


Art: As artists, we will be creating an animal mosaic in the style of Rosa Bonheur.  We will focus on the following skills:

  • Selecting a range of materials for striking effect.
  • Use coiling, overlapping, tessellation, mosaic and montage.


RE: The enquiry question: 'What do Christians learn from the Creation story?


Computing: As digital explorers, we will be looking at E-Safety and staying safe online.


PE: Throughout PE we will be learning a range of skills in invasion games (football).


French: As linguists, we will be starting to take a look at learning how to say 'hello', 'goodbye' and counting.




Homework will consist of reading, times tables and spellings. Please support your child as much as you can with getting these basic and crucial skills up to scratch. If you would like any support, please do come and see me or speak to a member of the Cherry class team. New homework will be issued on Thursdays and returned on Thursdays.


Reading books and library books are changed on Thursdays, earlier if needed. Please ensure your child has their reading diary in school everyday.


PE will take place on a Friday afternoon. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit.
