Curriculum Assessment

Assessment at Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary School

Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science
The National Curriculum requires that we assess children in the following way:

In Reading, Writing and Maths, children are assessed as being at the expected standard for their year group, working towards this standard or working at greater depth.

In Science, children are assessed as being at the expected standard for their year group or working towards this standard.

At Far Forest, we choose to look at an individual's strengths and areas for improvement and aim to use assessment to help children improve and reach their full potential.

As always, please feel free to come and look at the target boards in each classroom for ideas on how you can help with current learning and to ask any questions you might have!

Assessment of foundation subjects
We believe in a broad and balanced curriculum and we also assess children in the following subjects:
Computing, History, Geography, Religious Education, Physical Education, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Music, Modern Foreign Language (MFL).

We look at the common skills for each of these subject areas and aim to help children progress in these skills by providing phase group expectations. Children progress as they move through the school, engaging in exciting topic and experiential learning activities.

Assessment in the Early Years Foundation Stage
Practitioners in the EYFS use observation and child-led activities to make teacher assessments against the 'Development Matters' statements during the school year and then assess the children against the Early Learning Goals at the end of their reception year.
